Indoor Air Can Make You Sick

We spend nearly 90 percent of our time indoors and the air we breathe inside is up to five times more polluted than outdoor air. Your health and well-being depend on good indoor air quality. Indoor spaces, especially public spaces, are breeding grounds for bacteria, viruses, dust and allergens, and harsh chemicals that can permeate the air. The air you breathe can make you sick and in fact, it can kill you.

As featured in this cover story for Newsweek, every year air pollution causes more than 5.5 million deaths worldwide and the majority—about 4 million—are caused by indoor pollutants. The most dangerous particulate matter we breathe is the smallest known as PM2.5 that has been linked to heart attacks, stroke, and greater risk of respiratory illness. The quality of the air also affects our cognitive abilities.

Poor Indoor Air Quality Results in Revenue Loss

We take the time to clean surfaces and wash our hands as preventative measures against germs, but we also need to clean the air. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), approximately $60 billion is lost in revenue each year due to Sick Building Syndrome, a term used to describe illnesses caused by poorly ventilated buildings. This may include symptoms such as headaches, nausea, fatigue, or cold-like symptoms. Research has also shown that people who work in well-ventilated buildings have lower levels of anxiety.

The GermLogic team uses air purification systems that eliminate more than 99.9 percent of bacteria, viruses, dust, allergens, chemicals and odors. The team takes further steps to eliminate harmful mold and bacteria by retrofitting HVAC units with the UVC Emitters™ that use germicidal ultraviolet-C (UVC) energy. Clean air is essential in facilities such as hospitals and assisted living facilities where immune systems in patients or residents may be compromised. Our UVC Mobile Room Sanitizing System uses high output ultraviolet light to destroy a wide range of microbes, including salmonella, C. diff spores and HIV, on surfaces and in the air.
